- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 lb chicken, beef, or lamb, cut into strips
- 2 tablespoons shawarma spice mix
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup bell peppers, sliced
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat and sauté the onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add the meat and shawarma spice mix, cooking until the meat is browned.
- Stir in the rice and toast for about 2 minutes.
- Add chicken broth and salt, bringing the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until the rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed, about 15-20 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and mix in the bell peppers.
- Serve topped with yogurt and parsley.
Notes
- Adjust spice levels according to your taste.
- You can use any type of meat or make it vegetarian with chickpeas.
- Garnish with additional herbs if desired.
